The Mantis Institute is a recognized source for analects distinctive in the combination of social science diagnostic, prescriptive and prognostic methods with metaphysical perspectives that provide psychoanalytical interpretations on the complexities of civilization, the evolutionary nature of collective consciousness, and the implications of automated life by Artificial Intelligence. Experienced in college and high school settings is a basis for observing and understanding the individual within social life. This reality, where education meets application, the basis of teachings in the classroom, are made accessible to other audiences as open-source information. Analects are [psychoanalytical] narratives emphasizing ethically based education, governance, and humane, rational practices to treat social problems. Analects that attempt to be balanced by the inclusion of alternative perspectives, will find little if no space in the middle of "no man's land." Analyzing society based on experiences and an education in the social sciences is no guarantee of objectivity. To feign objectivity, research must pass the test of peer review by institutions controlling the narrative. Yet, the analogy and the analysis rationales of the social sciences were developed by the unfettered minds of the Renaissance, Enlightenment, and Modern Ages justifying or reacting to the powers of an era. To escape mediocrity, some minds aspire to be initiators of the "new" benefitting society, but that is rarely the case within monolithic institutions. It is a perplexing task to "thread the needle" of objectivity that examines forces that control its uses. Institutions do generate objective information but put it to subjective ends. 1 Yet, the purpose of "thinking" is to predict the future to escape the past by having information on uncomfortable suppressed subjects. To speak of what is questioned and cautiously whispered by the skeptical and ethically motivated are good deeds indeed. So, like the past, wisdom knows, that now and in the future - "no good deed goes unpunished." Truth: Social science studies free of value or beliefs are non-existent - only a question of the motive for "doctoring the information." Research is an industry cloaked in the "odor of goodness," technocrats serving power while claiming to be helpful. What good are statistics on the obvious, that the impoverished billions suffer the incompetence and negligence of elites monopolizing the instruments of state for questionable ends? |
Few are born teachers, a natural teacher is self-disciplined, yet knows when to ignore, bend, or break the rules; understands that students outnumber the teacher, but the teacher outweighs them. Most are concerned with what teachers do to students, but few are interested in what students do to teachers good or bad; impulsive, idealism needing self-discipline encountering seasoned cynicism needing rejuvenation. It is difficult to teach the factual truth, that power monopolies are insulated from an existence controlled and institutionally imposed on many others. Yet the bitter sweet fruit from the Tree of Knowledge, in the keeping of the gods is mastered through the School of Life, places where teachers must provide balanced answers to uncomfortable questions raised by pupils; an encounter between idealism and organized cynicism. Akin to pupae of a beehive require feeding, teachers of antiquity were surrounded by young disciples in a close relationship examining Providential Purpose. These masters were great ethicists of antiquity living within oppressive societies. Their analects have stood the test of time because they emphasize ethics and touch upon the psychology of the paranormal. Like disciples of antiquity, idealists, aspirants believing in a better world, their conscience is molded by experiences with failed role-models and few spiritual mentors, they seek the prophetic pragmatists of assurances of Joy and Optimism. Teachers as technicians, distanced from pupils, are proctors of approved materials. Civic classes and school rituals support the state; and counselors, trained in behavioral psychology of the "carrot and stick" increase the distance between teacher and student. It is difficult to counsel students dealing with life when teachers are reluctant to answer social and personal questions: "Why is life unfair?" Or, "Who am I?" Or more dangerously, students questioning their civic class book and teacher. Questions not easily answered at the university either where the capricious winds of "correctness" dictate the answers of what idea or agenda that is in power. 1 Truth: Education is profitable, cloaked in the "odor of goodness," posing as good caretakers. Elite academies limit access, a reflection of the social order. Most are locked-out of power, there are few caretakers for people living in garbage dumbs, war zones, and refugee camps. The children of these experiences, surviving criminals preying upon them, is the education needed to challenge the inbalance in power. |
Footnote: 1, The author was employed as a senior researcher and liason for a medical institution under contract and the direction of two Florida governors of opposite political parties. This state contract to manage research grants issued to the university communities reflected research and policy that changed with political ideologies. |
Footnote: 1, The author, as a graduate student witnessed the purging of foreign students by zealot professors following the event of 9/11. later, as a university instructor, the [demeanor of] schooling reflected the ideology of those in control; and as a public school teacher the teachings of a civic class are to be reinforced. |
