RESEARCH...研究 TEACHING...教学

Research that attempts to be balanced in its' perspectives, will find little if no space in the middle of "no man's land." Analyzing society based on experiences framed by an education in the social sciences is no guarantee of objectivity. To feign objectivity, research must pass the test of peer review by institutions controlling the narrative. Yet, Social Science emanates from 18th and 19th century intellectual mavericks that created analytical frames in reaction to control. To escape mediocrity, the rare mind aspires to be an initiator of "new thinking" bridging into something benefitting society, but that is rarely the case within the walls of institutions.

It is a perplexing task to "thread the needle" of objectivity that examines forces that control its uses. Yet there is the need to publish research that examines uncomfortable truths, suppressed subjects. Institutions may generate objective information but put it to subjective ends. It is difficult to teach about power insulated from an existence controlled and institutionally imposed on others. Yet, the purpose of the "thinkers" is to predict the future to escape the past. But to speak what is questioned and cautiously whispered of is a good deed indeed. However, like the past, initiators know, that now and in the future - "no good deed goes unpunished."

The balance in teaching is mastering the art of discussing suppressed topics raised by pupils, who like the pupae of a beehive require feeding. Teachers of antiquity were surrounded by young disciples in a close relationship examining our "Providential" purposes. These masters were Great Ethicists of the past living within oppressive societies. Their analects have stood the test of time because they emphasize ethics and touch upon the psychology of the paranormal. Like disciples of the past, today's aspirants, their conscience is molded by experiences with failed role-models and mentoring spiritual teachers in short supply.

Teachers as technicians, distanced from pupils, are proctors of approved materials. Civic classes and school rituals support the state; and counselors, trained in behavioral psychology of the "carrot and stick" increase the distance between teacher and student. It is difficult to counsel students dealing with life when teachers are reluctant to answer social and personal questions: "Why is life unfair?" Or, "Who am I?" Questions not easily answered at the university either where the capricious winds of "correctness" dictate the answers. Social Science studies free of value or beliefs are non-existent - only a question of the motive for "doctoring the information."

NARRATIVES...叙事 ...

Life and its rituals are like a play; a theatre of stories of good and evil; of playwrights and their half-truths written for producers of realties. Narratives are works of persuasion. Most narratives are cynical, fearful and hateful, a few inspirational, and fewer still, rational or ethical in placing the stability of "the village" over ambitions of power. The "tone" of the language reflects authority - legal or social power authoring "scripts" that either stabalize or destabilize society. Theatre, where plays are staged; played by the alluring voices of electronic tonalities, AI actors seducing the audience with disinformation to affect their thoughts, emotions and behaviors.

The sources of disinformation are authorized authors of authority. Their narratives, authored on behalf of power, are intended to "trigger" emotions of the targeted that confirms or negates one's values to the point of delusional belief, disbelief or apathy. The educated, socialized to believe "they know better," and the semiliterate that bear the burdens, are "triggered" by storytellers "fanning" an ideology. Critical inquiry, concerns of "thinking-out-loud" and "raw sincerity" questioning Power as a source of instabilities binding the sociopathic while alienating the ethical, elicits out of balance emotional and physical reactions.
