MANTIS 螳 Mantis [˂ NL ˂ Gk: mantik(os) for prophet]. The word “mantis” derived from the ancient Greek "mantik(os)," means soothsayer engaged in the divination arts; prophets professing their truths. In modern language, statistical prognostics and social theory interpretations. Good wizards understand that being impassive may be the better attitude; their analytics tend to be a bit more balanced in perspectives, but find little if no space in the middle of "no man's land" (see Wizard). Warlocks claiming to be objective, their analytics are a reflection of human nature - power and control (see Warlock). Studies free of value or beliefs are non-existent - only a question of the motive for "cooking the books." Practitioners of the statistical sciences measuring everything thought to be "social," have no more predictive power than the “witch doctor” conjuring up magic with voodoo; or the ancient arts of augury by tossing bones and reading them (see Voodoo). We ought to understand the weird predictive powers of the ancient divination systems that soothsayers practiced – the mantic arts auguring the what will be. Who is to say we ought to reject astrology that evolved into astronomy, and numerology into statistical profiling? We need to be willing to cross science with the humanities; a sociological genre with a “mantik" feel to it; social science with ancient philosophies, mythologies, and the arts of the psychic - dream interpretations, astrology, magic and numerology, all which have as much predictive power, and at times trusted more by many than the social sciences. An authentic genre of "revealed knowledge" experienced with technological, social disasters; social science with philosophies, mythologies and arts of divination; all reveal the prostrated truths about the Human Condition. These failures of state, authorities suppress through narratives that are disinformation (see Narrative). Though most suffer "living" with the failures, many repress any critical thought of this truth fearing punishment. Besides, until one experiences a disaster of state, their indifference maintains the status-quo. For a few, they are destined to be the solitary pawn on the chessboard with the monarch's soldiers towering over them. From Chinese martial arts of the north, there is "Mantis Boxing," a style of imitating the soft then hard techniques of the solitary praying mantis; a balanced creature. Research that attempts to be balanced in its' perspectives, will find little if no space in the middle of "no man's land." Like ancient scribes of solitude, softly, quietly recording uncensored information for posterity, there is danger when these soothsayers speak and write the truth. Though authorities may or may not censor books, still agencies read them, and make note of the scribe ciphering life. Let’s us pray like the praying mantis, that the suppressors read about crimes of malice empowered by ignorance, assured so by the hard, intentional placement of books in government archives. There, one can comfortably rest knowing "the fox is guarding the henhouse of taboo books [about them]." Copyright © Mantis Institute 2024
